And house concert at my place! Y’all are invited!
Long, long ago – the volute was part of a joint called a birdsmouth scarf joint, that was used to join the headstock paddle to the neck. It allowed the long grain of the headstock to be parallel to the faces (strongest) and created a strong mechanical interlock between the paddle and the neck. The volute was both decorative, and helped reinforce that joint. It’s become most common to saw the headstock and neck out of a single billet of wood, so the volute is mostly a vestigial remnant, but for traditional looks, many models include some form of the design – I’ll try to find a pic somewhere –
Edit – here its called a birds beak – John Greven does a great job of showing what this joint really is, although he uses a lot of jigs and power tools –

A few guitars I own have evo wire, and it is extremely nice. From what I hear, it is not any more difficult to work with than “standard” (especially compared to stainless) and yet it is much more durable. The gold color is pretty nice too – not overly brassy, really nice with gold tuners. If I had to choose, I’d definitely choose evo –
No apologies necessary!! You are one busy guy, and we all appreciate your efforts and are glad to hear from you when you can – and I think your priorities are right. If you don’t get the great wood, you can’t build the great guitars, and thats why we’re here!
The only problems with that is you’d have to scroll down a couple screens every time I wanted to post –
but maybe it could be added to an “about me” page for members, along with contact info? I think a gear list, with a little “why” when appropriate, would be a good thing – honestly, the only reason I have 3 baritones is I am too lazy to try and sell any –
They’re some cheap import jackets from Amazon – fake black velvet with rubberized gold imprint – but they do look sharp under the lights! And they may have helped us land some tawdry bar gig in Vegas next year – but I’ll believe that when I see it in writing!
I’ll know we’ve made it if we get to open for the Carolyn Sills Combo –
I think it shouldn’t be a question – just a statement –

Cool! If you got it in Chordpro format, shoot me a copy! Maybe we’ll add it to one of our sets – lemme know if theres something you might want, I’ll see if we’ve typed it out –
Thats the whole reason we have all these guitars – uh, I have – there is a difference in feel and emotion that goes beyond some wood spec and dimensions and is expressed in how we feel when we play them –
I agree – sometimes you just gotta play the same thing on a few different guitars just to remind yourself how special and unique each one is –
And to everyone who can get by fine with just one guitar – pfffffffffftt!
Thank you! I was not aware that Chrome was better at that – assumed that as a google product, it was much more inclined to get more data for google, so I’ve stuck with Safari – but if you can get onto this site and post, Chrome is gonna get alot more looking into –
But being old and having more trouble remembering a multitude of passwords ( and remembering them across multiple devices ) do you have any thoughts about passwords managers??
Hey bert!
Great to see people finding their way back here – spread the word!
Cant help with the pic, but when I grabbed the stuff between the tags and opened it in a new window, it sure looked great!
Maybe the link thingies would do it?

And hopefully you’ll have a new CD to bring with you!?! Planning any gigs around the bay area? Love to catch you live!
I’m not a connoisseur, but I find most evenings, a sit down with a couple Trumers, or maybe a nice IPA or two, goes with most anything. I have to admit, I’d be inclined to try something stronger, but once I’ve had a couple, I have a hard time getting up to pour another. When the boys come over to play at the shop, our drummer is sitting right next to the mini-fridge, and every time he gets up to stretch his back, he can just hand me another – Thats as good as it gets!!
Never left!!
No idea about the tonal differences between “moon” spruce and their normal top-of-the-line european spruces, but if Richard is recommending it, its the way I’d go –
