No mistake, Tony was why I bought my first SCGC guitar.   He was a true inspiration, his work with David Grisman opened a whole new world.  Diverse as they come, his version of Early Morning Rain is the standard for Gordon’s tune.

Man, you made lemonade out of a dang awful lemon… job well done Rich.  I admire you for taking on such a project. Those old Gibsons have their own vibe and I love em.

I took on a 1959 all-mahog LG3 about 8-10yrs ago. It was not beat to death but played to death. The orig owner played in a duet with his brother on violin known as the Swing Masters for 40+ years. The LG3 knew every bump in the road. Nothin from nuttin, I refin the top, changed the tuners, re-glued a number of braces, replaced frets & sanded the fretboard…. on & on. Got it playing fine but no beauty queen.  Mazin, the neck was worn like crazy but never a reset and no reset in sight.

The all-mahog was great for slide but got old after a few years and moved it out for a nice chunk of change.

I don’t play much country type music but a group I sit in here/there just emailed thinking about the future with the vaccine coming.

Those are some fantastic pics, took me on a trip back to the mid-late 70s when I lived in Santa Cruz.

Trippin is a wholesome thing to do these days.  best to everyone, bert

Tad, the LHTs look great, never heard of them til now, thanks.

Unless stated otherwise, the Eastmans are 1 3/4″ wide fretboard at the nut with their trad C shaped neck, 12″ radius :-).  Very easy to play in my experience. The two Eastmans I traded (AR805 16″ & AR810 17″ were very similar. Each played easy and sounded great (all 4 solid wood, their laminated b/s sound great with no feedback for a loud group. I don’t use fuzz boxes, just tad of reverb/delay type stuff. The Eastman Romeo is their hot-rockin model, plus their other handmade elecs.

Don’t know about the LHTs, but the Eastman either come with fixed pickups or floating, and their bridges can be either as well. All four of mine have had the floating ebony bridge. Some players swap out the pickups. I traded my AR805ce for a custom tube amp Chris Roberts built for me, he’s a premium custom amp builder in Nashville. He wanted a 2nd AR805 so he could have two of the same guitars with diff pickups, setup etc.

Give the pic thing another try…. thanks Rich for the refresh. This is my 2012 Archtop by Eastman, my son has the El Rey 4 archtop these days. Life is just not complete without an archtop… I had a Gibson ES150 for 30yrs but moved on as time went by:

                        Matt,
Tony Mottola played his classical with a pick…. don’t listen to traditionalist, they are full of it quite often.

                          Thanks Daniel,
long time since I’ve listened to Wes. Back in the 60-70s I listened to him a lot, after he passed I just sorta moved on… ain’t that the life.

Loved his opening conversation with the pianist… your piano is tuned, it stays that way for a long time. This guitar is in tune now but in 30mins… don’t we all know.   bert

Over 2.5 million guitars later, current CFO Chris Martin has just announced his retirement.  The truly legendary company is going to be without the Martin bloodline at the helm for the first time is my understanding.

Robbie Robertson tells a good story about how he wrote ‘The Weight’.  After driving many hours, he ‘pulled into Nazareth was feeling half past dead, just needed some place to lay my head’… endless legends born in Nazz.   bert
