Thanks again Rich, Tad, and Mr Hoover.
Listening to Richard talk about the late 70s brought back some great memories for that time period when I was living in Santa Cruz. My one time with Richard was memorable.
My 74′ D18 had a setup issue, a friend said let’s take it over to Richard, I had no idea of who he was talking about but, let’s go. Richard asked me to come back tomorrow and it would be ready. Went back the next day and the D18 never played so good. All the SC local players told me that Richard was a great guy, truth be told.
Your Zoomin with Richard proved that my 74yr old memories are still good, just don’t ask me where I left my car keys this morning. The thing I remembered so vividly in Richards shop was mandolins being built. In this clip, Richard said that the mandolin he built for Darol Anger is how he met Tony Rice ! I had never heard the name Tony Rice in those days but listened to David Grisman all the time!
Fast forward ~ 20yrs later, I had no idea Richard was building guitars but I bought a SCGC Tony Rice model because it was the best guitar I had ever played, from there I got caught up to speed.
thanks again you zoomin guys, goin to go wobulate for a while, maybe check out my VJ for warble. 🙂 bert
Andrew, glad you got around to posting here, Aussies are welcome. We’ll be hangin in with you for the delivery. best regards, bert
Just my opinion…. I would not want to see SCGC getting into installing pickup systems. It would be a huge side-track in their efforts to build outstanding guitars. I remember from back when Bill Collings telling his customers ‘no’ for that reason.
Like Tad said, any competent dealer can do these types of things. The optimal EQ settings for these types of devices would be a nightmare for SCGC operations but an every day part of a dealers operations. .02c bert
Great topic Daniel, thanks for starting this thread.
1965 Rollings Stones ‘Decembers Children’
However, I haven’t listened to an album in years, just playlist. My favorite artist are the ones who can uniquely blend blues/jazz in their arrangements…. Louis Armstrong, Ray Charles, and in recent times Euge Groove.
I think in terms of guitar being one voice in the mix, the ultimate portable utility instrument.bert
Thanks Rich, Tad, and James May…. what a awesome dose of education. I should get busy and wobulate for a few hours.
You may/may not know the Englishman JustinGuitar.com who does online guitar education. ‘Warble’ is his word in tuning when the harmonics are fighting. I understand warble quite well, now to use ‘wobulate’ in the same sentence will be the challenge.

Tad, when I saw your pics, my first thought was Daryl’s House.. you got it goin’. bert
Well, I’m enjoying this thread very much, thanks Hank.
I have two places in my home:
My five flattops and one archtop are stored in my office. (see pic)

My DAW is located in the Bonus Room. I was reluctant to post this because my desktop went south in recent times and my Digital Audio Workstation is down until further notice. uhhhdamnOver a period of a few years I pieced together a fully functional multi-track home studio for acoustic recording. I have used it for many projects of my own, also friends might send me a rhythm/vocal track they wrote and I diddle around until I ‘might’ find a lead/arpeggio track to add and send it back.
Mostly I use it to develop my own writing, attached is a link to one of my short acoustic rhythm guitar track with a lead guitar overdub. This one happened in about 5mins, some take forever and hang in limbo until they find neverland. Part of the creative process I’ve learned. bert

The old Jerry Reed song…. “She got the gold mine and I got the shaft”
seems appropriate about now

As the world turns… the old forums from SC and Collings went off the air, diff reasons is my understanding. As a member I know the old Collings forum was a bee hive of activity, since the new forum came up it has been slow, slower and turtles are racing by. I never knew there was an old SC forum, my bad.
What I do know is the the Collings Facebook page is very active according to players I know. It’s my opinion and hope that what you guys are doing will likely give things a boost and a smart move.
If I were on Facebook… there’s an x-wife out there that would hunt me down and make my life miserable again,
jus sayin. 🙂

+1 on what Mr Jelly said, It is a much talked about topic with acoustic guitars. Guitar shops, builders, etc install high end systems to keep humidity in line. For the home not so much is needed.
I live in the Atlanta area which can be very humid. I have a Frigidaire 50pt room dehumidifier (see pic) for high humidity during the spring and fall. The air conditioning in the summer and the heat during the winter do a good job, most of the time. In the winter I can turn on the whole house humidification system as part of the heating system if needed.
I have a couple of Ambient Weather, low cost home hygrometers which I check the readout often.
There are as many methods of managing humidity as there are players seems to me.

Thanks Hank, highly recommend, I ran into this on the UMGF recently. R.H., Bill Collings and Bob Benedetto were featured very prominently laying out the evol of acoustic guitars. We are so lucky to still have Mr Hoover. bert
Rich, much success to you and SCGC in your new adventure, but… no no no to my joining f’book. I fully support what you are doing. I know that Collings has a large following on facebook, it’s the thing to do. Your wonderful ‘Podcast’ deserve a much higher profile (as well as other matters). In the mean time we’ll be here.
best regards, bert
Dang man, I’m jonesn’ and don’t even play fingerstyle. You’ve awaken the forum. Best part of this is the people building your guitar. bert
SCGC guitars start with the very best wood… your pics make that clear. Now, the hard part… the wait.
much joy coming your way. bert
Listening to Yo Yo Ma explain his attachment to his 266yr old Italian cello is all anybody needs to know about bonding with stringed instruments. Bonding with guitars is special is what I believe. amen, bert
