+1 on what Tad said. I always go by the thought of, is it something that I can live with down the line, flashy always seems to get old with me’. dunno, made me think of….
My favorite Wallace Stevens quote:
They said, “You have a blue guitar, you do not play things as they are.”
The man replied, “Things as they are, are changed upon the blue guitar.”wish I could be of more help. bert

Thanks Rich for another fine video. The HT13 is excellent, thanks to SCGC. bert
Barber, post em up for sure… best regards. I took a sneak peak at your SoundCloud… good vibes. bert
Hank, one of our members put up an excellent ya’lltube vid on the subject.
Andy’s method is using a European battery powered winder similar to the Ernie Ball winder I have. The main reason the winder is so helpful is that you must use one hand to guide the string as it winds, without the winder you will be fighting trying to hold and wind manually.
Some people use a std drill with a special winder attachment… the problem with this method is that you just don’t have tight control of the speed, the battery winders are geared to the speed needed to get a tight wind without overlapping the wire. Hope this helps. bert
Rich, I’ll ask the Maple St owners if they has started giving Didjeridu lessions… huh?
eeee yea, bert
Barber, as Bro Ray Charles used to say ‘you got the right one baby’. Loved your story, I had a redwood topped Bourgeois 00 until a friend talked me out it a little over year ago.. I can only imagine how fine is your beautiful SCGC 00. I can’t play fingerstyle but admire those who do, so ultimately OM is my minimum size with a BlueChip in hand.
I bought my first SCGC, a Tony Rice in 2003, but never knew of the old forum. That was my primary guitar for 6yrs… but, like Mr. Jelly said the problem was me ‘not the guitar’. Dreads and rosewood had to leave the building to be replaced with mahog Slope and OM type mid sized models. As a rhythmic arpeggio riff writer (I didn’t say singer/songwriter) sizes below OM are too small and dread too big. Evolution always plays into things is what I think.
My 2001 SCGC VJ is my favorite all-around guitar that I have ever owned. Other guitars I own are truly for color.

Mr. Jelly, welcome to the forum, sorry I didn’t recognize you were new here. We’re a relatively small/informal group, all you have to do is relax and make yourself at home.
Just guessing you might have a SCGC 00 model, we’d love to hear about your SCGC adventures.
best wishes, bert
Excellent topic Hank. I could wax on philosophically about things but why put the forum to sleep. When you buy a young child a coloring book, you also buy a pack of multi-color crayons.
what makes the world go round. bert
Daniel, I completely agree, the VJ just nailed that demo. I’ve been playing both builders for 15+ yrs,
Collings are always tighter new, then, in time they settle in. My CJ never caught up with my VJ until I recently put on the SCGC Parabolic Norms, but even then they are still very diff vibes.
I have been about to sell the CJ a zillion times but the SCGC strings have changed that,
thank you SCGC. bert
btw – (I know John doing the demo, Maple St has some fine guitar players and they love some SCGC)
Rich, no problem. GREAT guitar store in ATL?…. you must mean Maple St Guitars, owned by the Petsch family. Yep, they have been a SCGC dealer since forever and are great friends to me and all in ATL.
You and crew did a great job on Michael’s video, good touch by all, very entertaining and timely. bert
Don’t know where Richard got that bit of confusion.. I’m in ATL, GA. Although, I did spend a week between Sydney & Queensland about 30yrs ago. Fell asleep in the Sydney Opera House, couldn’t wait for the fat lady to sing.. hee. bert
~15yrs ago I belonged to a songwriters group here in N Atlanta. Technology was so primitive in those days compared to what you and Rich are doing these days. Watching your video gave me great memories of the songwriting collaboration process from days gone by. Nothing but the best to you and…. you got a peach there with Rich Newman. best regards, bert
Just got a utube listen of ‘See you on the other side’, big congratulations for your excellent work. Also enjoyed the Podcast with the forum, best wishes. bert
The SCGC Low Tensions have been on the VJ for a couple days now, D’Addario is in the rearview:
