I played a rw vs a mahog OMG at LA Guitar Sales a couple years ago – From behind the guitar, the mahogany had me completely won over, but with this video, I’d have a very hard time deciding between them –
Thats one model of SC I’d love to spend more time getting to know –
I’m gonna need new strings on the 12 sooner than later – I’ll see how you feel about these in a month or so –
Richard said baritone strings and a 12 string set were on the drawing board, but I’m sure he has his hands full getting the shop back up to whatever will be considered “normal” –
I couldn’t tell you anything from that – looks like OM 1621, 2/o0, but the initials are unreadable to me – the shop has been on lockdown, with no one allowed to go in, but I think they are starting to go in on a limited basis and limited times, so I would forward your info and the pic to the shop via email, and ask them it\f they can find the build card and forward any additional info they have on your guitar. But you may have to be patient – they have to get the shop back up and running –
How can you argue with any of that? I honestly regret almost every SC I’ve sold, and not a single one I’ve bought – and that’s saying a bit. In the last couple weeks I’ve enjoyed my koa H, koa OM, maple F, eir F, hog VS, walnut 12 string, and eir bari – each one special, and no way I could rank one over another.
I do have a couple of other “specials”, also by builder/friends – a Klepper, which I am so grateful Howard let me get at an insanely good price for such a unique instrument, and, of course, a few Sexauers. Bruce has become someone I am glad to have as a friend, and with our wives have vacationed in Italy (my only trip out of the US) which makes for wonderful memories that go so far beyond just the incredible guitars he builds.
But – Richard and the crew at Santa Cruz put something special into every build, something that rings true when you pick it up – and I’m a little bit happier whenever I do –
That would be a great question for Richard – I would guess that at some time they have built one (or more) – they have made acoustic basses, baritones, 17” jazz guitars, mandocellos, so a jumbo would not be very far out of the imagination –
I can’t say I’m practicing more – at least guitar. Too many house projects that can’t be ignored when the spouse is over your shoulder continuously reminding you whats next on the list. But I have been having some fun with a new toy I got off eBay – its the Izotope Spire – cordless recording unit that is so easy to setup and use, I’ve actually started making an effort to record and listen to myself. I’ve tried in the past, but too much technology and chords and power supplies and knobs and sliders and blinking lights – yikes! This is a standalone device that has a free app for ios (also works alone, and maybe other devices? Haven’t looked) which makes recording multi-track by yourself just stupid easy, and sounds pretty darn good. I’m now at the point where I can have my music up on my iPad, the Aspire app on my iphone to control, and the device perched on a mic stand in front of me – and have almost finished a song (nothing original, not there yet) and it may actually sound good enough to let others hear! Although, with all the talent staying home and releasing great music routinely, I may still not be up to snuff. All about timing, yet again –
But I do hope to get some sound samples from a few guitars and get those up sometime soon –Well, after looking at the site and listening to the samples, I don’t think its for me. Does seem like an interesting addition to those who use loopers routinely, however. My interest was in the guy who wears his guitar around the back of his neck – that would make it much easier to have your beer and snacks on a plate in front of you. And maybe, if I used a looper, I’d have my hands free to snack during shows – hmmm –
Welcome! If its new, or you plan to order it, email or call the shop to see whats standard, and what options they can offer you. If you’ve found a used instrument, you can have them look up the serial no to see if theres any indication on its build card if its something other than stock – they do tend to make a fair number of customs. Beyond that, I do not have any first hand experience with the VA, only the VS, and this one has a custom 1-¾” neck, so that doesn’t really help with anything – sorry –
