I would submit with All IMHO.
Regardless of builder it is what each individual hears when he/she makes the first strum on a guitar….It Is THE Most Personal of ALL inputs…..The first vibe, the first feel in the chest, the first percussion of the ear drum, the first feel in the finger tips….ALL these things establish our attraction to an iconic builder.
I was a man who was very happy with a 1993 Martin HD-28…. I could not have imagined a better sounding instrument.
Then….I discovered a SCGC Da-1 at a Guitar Center in Ft Myers Fl.
Since the discovery of that guitar I have spent enough $$ on Santa Cruz guitars to have bought a Bentley and then some.
WHY ??…..because when I play them, their voices ( just me, for myself) let ME fly…. I can be free of all cares, I can sail into the wind and heel hard to weather……. I can SOAR.
I am a better player because of the artistry and the science that Richard Hoover and his tribe have created out of wood and glue and steel…….and the history they have learned from.
Thanks.
Hank

My question would be ….How does the material of the plectrum/Pick effect the basic “Fundamental”?….or does it ?
Santa Cruz Picks in the future ?
A GREAT COFFEE BREAK…….and I’m only an hour into it.
I wonder if Madagascar Rosewood is included ?
It was my understanding that SCGC was not going to use Madi on any new instruments and has not used it for several years…….anyone know .
A.S.
The O.T. signature H model i bought from Otis was his main touring guitar and of course very played in.
it is Madi/Italian. I bought it in 2014 so it was then 6 years on tour……I knew the depth of it the first strum at Denver Folklore Center.
I have never played a “new” Anything/Italian but I can say that my experience with a very young and lightly played Hog/Euro was amazing at first strum.
submitted with humbleness.
Hurricane Season is from June 1st to Nov. 15th….The humidity is why we have A/C.
It has never been 100 degrees here but the humidity can reach 90 % almost every afternoon during those months.
I tell Dee that I am buying a new A/C for her comfort……but it is REALLY for the Ramuda !!!
A $17,000 replacement A/C system has slowed down the ‘Blue Hole”…….If I want to keep being married to the most wonderful lady in the world, I have to provide A/C in Southwest Florida in May, June, July .August .Sep and b part of Nov..
I can take the heat ALL year around….but women “Of a certain age “cannot.
A.S.
I’m sorry to tell you this but your answer lies in an instrument made of “The Tree”.
If you visit Fl. stop by and play mine…..then you will have found your answer.
After reading through ALL of this I have only 1 Question……Is the “Real” sound of an acoustic guitar best obtained through the use of onboard p/u through a mixer or is it more accurate reproduction to use a Mic straight to a high quality speaker. ?
Seems to me that our own Eric Skye uses Mics….or is that just the way that Mr. Newman prefers to record.?
I ask because my wife has a Yamaha board to a TubroSound 500 watt speaker or a Bose SoundPure to a Bose tower.
Both I have “Plugged” into and the sound just never seems to be as my ear hears it when I just play unplugged .
Is a Mic a better way to go? and if so what Mic ? I know to position at the 12th fret if using only a single Mic.
Bert,
Just discovered your Soundcloud site….very nice stuff….REALLY like the “Midnight Rider” cut.
Inspired me to try my own version of it.

October 31, 2019 at 1:47 pm in reply to: Pre-war/Advanced-x bracing and string choice propensity? #3085The SCs stay on the home range with the exception of the SC F that has traveled by car to Colo. and back.
I do let friends who I trust play them when we have Jams at home.
The Martin has traveled a lot. To the Islands and to Join my friends “IN LOW PLACES” on the VERY rare occasions I perform in public with Dee.
ALL have been evacuated once for Hurricane Irma.
We have recorded 3 CDs…..Studio time in a class A studio with a master engineer is $ 30 P/Hr.
It is the mastering of the recording that take lots of time and $$$$.
The recording I made for our forum cost me $45…..what I sent to this forum was raw…no editing no mastering.
The studio put it on Soundcloud for me and I then sent it here

SCGC low tension on the F, OM, And O.T. H model.
Played the O.T today plugged in …..very balanced with clear mid-range , bell like trebels and Grand piano sounding bass through a Bose TouchTone and Bose l11S tower.
SCGC Mid tension on the 1934 Zorro
All pure acoustic except for the O.T which has a baggs under saddle P/U. with sound hole volume control.
I am a great believer in SC strings and have used them on all my guitars since their introduction.
But…..after a long conversation with DigDog about string types on “plugged in” guitars I have decided to order a set of Martin retros (mediums) for the martin HD-28 ( a baggs p/u). His comments about the composition of the retros and the metallurgy of the pick ups on electric guitars made sense so I will give them a try.
I have been drafted to play in public with my wife and will use the Martin plugged in to a sound system…..I’ll let Y’All know how it goes.

I kept begging Alex….Mate , just set it up so I can push one F**^ing button and play !!
He said , Hank an artist has to use all of the Pallet……and HE was an Artist.
Remember he was an intelligence analyst for the Navy…he looked at all the angles.
He learned 8 bars of music on the pedal steel guitar just to record one song with Dee because he said “it’s gotta be in the song”.
