Well done….maybe show off your skills a bit more the next time.
October 13, 2019 at 9:13 pm in reply to: Santa Cruz Coffee Break-Lunch with Richard Hoover #4 podcast Meet Carolyn Sills #2953A couple of hours playing SC guitars and 42 minutes listening to those who created them….a nice Sunday afternoon.
Well done Tad and Richard N..
adding Lady Carolyn was a nice surprise.
Looking forward to some of the “fore shadowing” of future guests.

My guitar repair Guru move to North Fl. a couple of years ago. We don’t have anybody I would trust locally. He is about 4 hrs away.
The Martin is due for a refret someday soon. Maybe Gerard and Carolyn want to visit The Gulf Coast of Florida ?
After looking at his FaceBook page it would appear that “The Combo” has become a full time deal….wonderful !!!
PROBLEM 90% SOLVED…..while working with some of the chords Matt H sent me I realized how DAMN LAZY I had become.
Cure : LIFT…GLIDE….LAND. Makes all the difference .
Daniel,
I used to use Elixers….but I REALLY like the sound of the SC strings and the SCs last and last.
I change the strings on all the Remuda every trimester and just received 5 sets from the Mothership yesterday.
I do agree that “some” squeak is part of the game with acoustics but my continuing advancement in playing up the neck with alternate fingerings creates more squeak than I like especially when “Plugged in”.
I have given in to Dee’s requests to play at her Sunday open Jams (at least one time) and the songs she likes best are “Quiet” finger pick/light strum style.
Melissa , St James Infirmary , Sunday Morning Coming Down , Nobody Knows You.
I tried rubbing some Fast Fret on my finger tips last night and that DID help and I didn’t notice any diminished string sustain, but I think it is going to be Technique that ultimitly solves the problem.
By the way how is the new CD coming along ? Look forward to your update on the Recording page of the Forum.
Many thanks to BOTH Matts……
Matt H for sending me 2 of the longest emails I’ve EVER received . He sent me an entire Doctorial thesis on Jazz/Blues chord fingerings , timing, rhythm and theory. I guess he forgot I’m almost 73 and my remaining time is shorter rather than longer…… I remember at the 40th everyone talking about his Jazz Centric style of playing , even on the 34 Zorro Dread.
And to Matt S for his suggestion on Bob Weir using Finger Ease. Knowing Matt S is a music teacher and still suggests a short cut is cool.
I’m going in tomorrow to have several more large hunks of hide cut out and stiched up,so I’ll be inside for the next week or so….lots of time to practice…practice….practice.
I will try both.

Matt, what tuneings do you use when using a slide……all open?
Mate…..watch it ALL.
2,3,4 are the creation of the soul of the music.
The coming together of Scots-Irish Mountain music, Black Gospel and Poor White Hill-Billy.
Radio programs and early recording studios……Y’All Come Back Y’hear.
I have been playing “Melissa” by the Allman Bros.
Moving (sliding) the F#m ,G#m chords and the Bm, C#m up and down the neck.
Making up my own finger picking for it.
I should just practice lifting my left hand and not slide…..i love the progression and especially playing A on the 567 fret fingering then back up to the Bm…….mellow.
Miner,
There are hundreds (if not thousands) of online lessons available to you.
if Classical guitar is your goal first learn the “Classical” position…instrument on left leg and then find an online instructor. then practice, practice, practice.
DO NOT do what I did and “teach” yourself….you won’t recognize bad habits until it is too late……and for me it is a lifetime of bad habits
if you fall in love with the guitar, you will find a friend for life…..a friend that will forgive your bad habits.
Deziner2,
I remember some of the work you did with Alex….Good stuff.
My sympathies for your recent hardships……Not to be disrespectful but, while you may not like country music, the first paragraph of your post sounds like a sure #1 country hit if you could add 3 chords.
September 3, 2019 at 3:54 am in reply to: Santa Cruz Coffee Break Lunch with Richard Hoover #3 custom guitars #2807I’m sitting on a balcony overlooking Lake McDonald and the western range of the mountains of Glacier National Park.
I have just spent the last bit of time listening to a wonderful conversation about SCGC guitars with Y’All…….
Well done and Thank You to Mr. Hoover and Richard Newman and Tad Laird.
Now …If only I had a Santa Cruz guitar to play :-
