Weird1963…. you may be correct about mine being the 4th OM.
Also I went to the Dream Guitars Website and I think I heard the presenter of the VA 746 say that it is the 2nd in the series…..wonderful sounding instrument.
I have a Martin Custom HD-28 built in 1993 and was a gift from my wife.
28 years of playing and ageing has it sounding much like the VA.
I’m now a bit confused.
The listing for 000-7816 says it is the first guitar of 10 that will be built from “special quilted Hog”.
Is that 10 VAs ? as a limited edition or 10 guitars total ?
When I bought my 2015 OM made from “The Tree”/Euro, I was told it was only the 4th guitar from “The Tree” that Santa Cruz had built. It was signed by Richard and the Serial # is 5010.
It (5010)was confirmed by the seller to be as described and confirmed by SCGC .
I adore the OM and its’ sound is very, very special and I would not sell it….. but now I’m curious ……any input from you SCGC historians ?
23 years between the Advertisement and the building of “only ” the 4th guitar built using that wood seems out of kilter……or am I missing something.
Very cool Tad….Thanks.
Finished “The Devil Is In It”…..wonderful book.
I liked it so much I put in a very safe place…..

Best wishes Daniel….stay safe ….wish Y’all could come to Florida.

Let us know how you like it…..Take your time learning it…….the voice will become an “Old Friend”.
I have learned to play with the other kids….

Once Y’all Got through with that Foreign Talk’en bout that there Electrical mumbo jumbo ….
Just kidding ….really enjoyed James. His love for his music and his playing and most of all Richard Hoover and the guitars he builds really shines through.
I love his comment about getting beyond “Thinking” while playing……..Hell, I thought there was something wrong with me when I went all S.O.C. while playing on my guitars.
Great job Richard & Tad….Thank You .
This has become a thread on “That Other Forum”
Do not delay ordering .
I Have NO $ interest …..just recommending a great book

This seems to fit with this thread…. Maybe John mentions this collection in his book.
I was not as smart as Derek’s wife…. I was not able to purchase a Collectors copy of John’s book.
But the Copy I received is just wonderful.
Derek is correct ….It is very well written and the extensive history revealed shows how much research John did into the instrument we all enjoy.
John’s comments about G.A.S and we collector/players is right on….he is one of us after all.
I’m a little over 100 pages into it and Maestro Hoover and Johns first interaction is on page 78 …. John’s obvious love for Santa Cruz Guitars is well described.
The physical book is of the quality of our SC instruments, really just a superb “feel” to it.
IT IS NOT a bed time read… This is a “Solid” Tome.
Thanks John……I’m going to keep the book in my American Music Furniture Display cabinet along with my guitars….. It deserves the same treatment as the Ramuda.
Mis- wrote I should have said the F is very Maple and bright.
The OM is wonderful as is…not amplified….sorry about that.
I wanted to follow up with a note about the L.R.Baggs M-80 sound holes P/u.
You can read my posts above as to why I chose it.
The 3 images above show it on the FTC Granadillo/Redwood ,the 1934 D Braz/Adi and the F Maple/German.
The unit would NOT fit into the smaller sound hole of the OM Hog/Euro……I was disappointed with that.
But. that is the only disappointment…… I am VERY PLEASED with the “Life Like Acoustic Sound”
I have played the three guitars through 2 systems :
A Bheringer Eurolive B205D and a Bose L1 with Tonematch.
I hear no compression or electronic distortion. While my hearing may not be the best ,Dee has perfect Pitch and she says the sound is exactly like the voice when played with out amplification.
The different guitars do require adjustment of the onboard volume wheel. The 34 Zorro needs to be turned down compared to the F and the FTC needs only very slightly less than the 34 Zorro.
The volume at the PAs is constant… with no effects used.
Interestingly the volume relative to each guitar is the same as with out the P/U.
One can also hear the individule voice of each guitar…..so the unit is without question picking up the sound vibrations from the different woods……the OM is woodier/dryer…. the FTC is very bell like and the 34 Zorro is Braz Grand Piano clarity.
The ability to change the M-80 to different guitars guitars quickly and easily is a real plus.
I am VERY careful not to set the set screws overly tight…….so far NO indication of any damage to the finish at the edge of the sound holes. The M-80 might fit the OM but I was not willing to force the issue for fear of marking the finish.
I do not leave the M-80 on a guitar over night .
One needs to be a bit careful with the jack end of the unit as it is metal and a bit sharp edged. It can flop or bang against the guitar top or body if one is not careful. I may wrap the jack in foam .
All in All the unit does exactly what I wanted and I’m very pleased.
I purchased the M-80 from Sweetwater and it was a smooth transaction…..as usual.
