The back and sides are lovely flamed walnut – top is just beautiful sitka ( I think ) –
i’ve seen the Charis knobs website – any experience with them? Good quality? I wouldn’t want to go high contrast, but I’m thinking either a light contrast, or maybe a slight shape difference, or maybe just a little texture difference –
Sounds like you need to order a couple rolls of PEX and spend some time watching YouTube!

I’ll just tag onto this thread rather than starting a new one –
I’m thinking of some new buttons for these Gotoh minis – I’m thinking wood or plastic, since 12x metal is undoubtedly adding a bit of weight to the headstock (although, thus guitar has amazing sustain -) and I am also thinking of 2 slightly different woods, to make it easier to tweak tuning ( instead of counting buttons til I find the right one) –
Any thoughts on where to get some nice buttons? Or anyone seen or done different buttons for the pairs?
Lets not get started on past guitars that have gotten away – makes me sad every time I start to think of a few of them –

The alignment of the posts is pretty critical – just leaving things a hair loose can make a huge difference. Some people will use a tiny bit of dry lube, some use wet, but what Matt says is really important. No matter what you use, you need to be extremely cautious with any lube, because if it gets into the wood, it can stain, or cause finish issues. But, it can help –
Thanks! I think my sons work is exceptional, but I acknowledge that I might be a little biased –
his website is – <b><u>Malartkey.com </u></b> – and it has a number of pins and such that he’s designed and had made. He’s just now trying to get into other products and also into doing design work for other people, but the business side of things is a bit more challenging for him than the artwork – I keep wanting to jump in and help him with stuff, but he has his own process and it’s important that he work through it all and figure it out for himself. I recall my dad wanting to help me with my first business, but I had to make all my own mistakes and learn it for myself, so I am trying to give him that same space – but it’s equally challenging for both of us, I think –
That’s just so beautifully phrased and expressed – in a few short paragraphs, I feel like I’ve met and lost someone more special than I had ever imagined, although it’s really just Richard sharing his insight, and maybe even a small piece of his soul, just like he does with every instrument that he’s made – even when they don’t go into the hands of someone as talented as Tony Rice –
Richard has always been special for bringing us all the Santa Cruz Guitar Company, but now, I have to say my eyes are more opened, and just how much I love and appreciate everything else that his efforts have made possible – or if not made possible, truly has helped make better –
OK! Thanks to some great help from Mr RN – I am reasonably pleased to offer this to the forum – excerpts from a Zoom show I did with a couple friends at our social club – Video was a failure, but this is a huge step for me as a performer (first time out in front !) – Enjoy!
I unhappily must report that a couple friends and I did a pretty good Xmas show via Zoom for our social club friends, but we did not properly record the video. so – I have some nice audio to mix down, but no video to go with it. I may submit it anyway, but I am extremely bummed –

The forum would still like contributions from everyone else – don’t worry about doing anything that well, ‘cause none of us probably can, but anything you can throw together with your phone, or however, would be very welcome – I’m practicing up to avoid too much embarrassment, but it’ll be what it’ll be!
