Thanks, it really does have a wonderful sound… even in my less than professional hands. : )
I’m actually working on some songs with some friends, we are recording under the name “Redwood Sky,” as a tribute to my guitar and what I see along my favorite hikes on the trails of the Northern California coast.
We have 3 (soon to be 4) songs uploaded on SoundCloud. We’re not making any money off it, it is just to get the music heard. Just curious: is it permissible to create a post with a link to my SoundCloud page so people can hear my SCGC, or is that not consistent with what people should post on the forum?
I don’t want to presume or do anything against the intended spirit of the forum.
Thanks.
Thanks, this is such a warm, friendly site. Also, love the podcast!
Hmm, this is an interesting topic. I wish I could say I’m an avid SCGC fan and collector, but, alas, my budget only allows me to be an avid SCGC fan and own 1 of their guitars. For me, there was a lot of value in going to Santa Cruz and taking the shop tour with Richard. I took my other (now less loved) guitar and played a few songs and then Richard asked me what I liked about the guitar and what I wished I could change. In the end we settled on a custom 00 based on the Skye model but with Sinker Redwood and Mahogany. As a singer-songwriter who both flat and fingerpicks it is just about perfect for me, it has made me musically monogamous! However, I don’t think I could have verbalized what I was looking for nor could I have had such a satisfying end product without the guidance and expertise of Richard and Carolyn.
I never get tired of Richard sharing his wisdom with us! I hope shop tours can safely resume in the not too distant future. Thanks for another fine episode.
I use the SCGC low tension strings on my SCGC 00, and get a wonderful sound. Beautiful balance for the Redwood top.
Thanks for another fine episode. Happy is such a humble, charming individual, can’t wait to see his Signature model!
Mighty fine looking display there, looks great! I’m about halfway through the book and I feel like I learn something new and get a chuckle on just about every page.
Hey John Stubbins, welcome to the forum! My name is Derek and my wife just bought me your book for our anniversary. (#104 that went to California)
It is a wonderful read so far, love the info and the humor. The quality of the book? Well, let’s just say it deserves its place near my SCGC 00.
I highly recommend the book!

Another great episode.
I’m sure you get these (unsolicited) all the time, but I have a podcast episode suggestion. I’d love to see some interviews with the luthiers of SCGC, both longtime and relatively recent arrivals. I’d be curious to know what brought them to SCGC, what keeps them there, what have the learned from Richard, favorite aspect of luthier work, etc.
Again, appreciate all the time and effort you put into the podcast!
Thank you!
Great episode, always great to see Richard. It was interesting to hear his thoughts on the virtual NAMM show.
Richard and Tad, thanks for all to work to bring us the podcast.
Read the Brooks book years ago, great read. I also met him at the Healdsburg Guitar Festival and had a chance to play the guitar that he had made by Running Dog.
I’d love to get my hands on the book “The Devil is In It,” but it seems to be a limited run.
What a beauty, congratulations! I love my SCGC 00 with sinker redwood and mahogany; I don’t know what it is that Richard and his team do with Mahogany but the results are sure special!
That looks great. Appreciate the kindness, will send my envelope soon. Take care!
Many thanks for the episode with Eric, he is an amazing, thoughtful musician. His music is so original and is always on my playlist.
Appreciate the time you put in to creating and editing these episodes.
