Sorry I missed the deadline. But if by chance you’re looking for something, I’d love to hear Richard’s thoughts on slotted/fluted bridge pins vs slotted bridge. In general I find it easier to string up a guitar that has a slotted bridge & solid pins. I’ve heard mixed opinions that a slotted bridge allows the ball ends to align perpendicular to the axis of the bridge reducing the likelihood of damage to the underside of the bridge. Trusted luthiers have differing opinions on this as well. SCGC, Froggy Bottom, Goodall and H&D all use fluted pins. Collings, Bourgeois, and some Martins slot the bridge. What does the master think?

I checked out the shop when I received the email earlier today. Incredible deals on SCGC and H&D in particular. I wondered the same thing: are they heading to become non-dealers.

Great news!

Funny thing — I was listening with headphones. During the podcast I heard a dog bark and thought my daughter had come by with her dog. I ran down the stairs calling her, but there was no answer. After scratching my head a bit I realized it must have been at your end. Please tell me there was a dog on the podcast…

July 18, 2019 at 8:53 pm in reply to: Santa Cruz Coffee Break-Lunch with Richard Hoover #1 podcast #2623I’ve heard Richard say that everything you do to a guitar affects tone. We often wonder how seemingly small things like the choice of adhesive and finish systems impact tone. However, it seems like many builders are developing more dramatic angles in an effort to capture market share. So I’ll throw torrefaction and relicing our there as possible discussion topics. What is Richard’s attitude about such things?

Well, I guess you could hang it over your bed to show how much you like it! 🙂

Ok Bert, for kicks — are you an engineer? 😉

That’s great Chris. But what is this device. A sound hole pick retriever?

Fortunately I have a spare guest room that doubles as my Operations Center.

Tad — yes, I brought it to my local frame shop and had it professionally matted & framed. The mounting cost almost 10x the original cost of the print, but it was well worth it to me. Great job. And by coincidence I discovered one of my ex-students owned the shop, so that was a bonus.

Here’s mine, thanks to Carolyn.
