A.C.,
Thanks for that…..I’m sure that was a lot of work to put together….and it was well done.
I use the Lite tension on the F, Om , H-13 O.T. and Mediums on the 34 Zorro.
This is the recommendation of SCGC.
I tried the meds. on the F for awhile but found that they were a bit “blunt” sounding…….changed back to lites.
Again thanks.
Ahhh Jeff …..Your SCGC Ramuda grows quickly.
I agree with Bert about that vintage of SC guitars……My F Cutaway would even make the guru of Fs (Tad) smile with its’ voice.
You have received the accumulated knowledge of a group of SCGC owners that is both accurate and maybe…just maybe a bit overwhelming.
Your statement that you are going to commission 4 instruments, One to pass on to each child touches me.
I own 4 SCs and 1 old Martin that I also plan on passing on to my Nephew and 3 Nieces.
I don’t agree with some that SCs take years to develop the voice that we all love…….a couple of years yes, but the more you play them the sooner the instruments true sonic appear.
if you intend to stick to your 4 year plan…..TELL Maestro Hoover NOW….let him know now so he can advise you and plan what woods he might have in his “personal” stash.
Your kids are very lucky. If they are young you’ll have years to “play in” the guitars and pass on to them open and singing instruments.
Well …a double treat in this edition. The Article on the Luthier Ken Hooper building an instrument from “The Tree’, and his comments about learning from Maestro Hoover on how to work with that unique wood. To be able to play my SC “Tree” OM everyday is a gift.
And the Eric Skye article, which included wonderful comments from and about our esteemed Keymaster Richard Newman.
My admiration for all those above is boundless.
For Mr. Hoover…. the reasons are obvious.
For Richard Newman…well those are personal and very heart felt.
For Eric Skye…. His amazing talent and dedication to his art. Also because he gave Dee permission to use his recording of “Ode To Billy Joe” to use as a backing track for her show. Her voice, backed by Eric’s guitar is wonderfully simple yet memorable.
I am really a very lucky guy.

The mail just arrived , FBJ handed to me by my mail guy…….don’t bother me for awhile !!
New Friend Neil,
The VERY first thing you should do is schedule a telecon with Richard Hoover…through Carolyn.
he is a MASTER at putting you sonic desires into wood and steel.
I am the lucky owner of a “The tree” Hog/Euro OM and also a Madi/Italian H-13 O.T..
The O.T. is not light but has the sound you wish for……The weight comes from the Madi/Euro and a p/u.
A different wood combo might be much lighter but man does it have a voice for Blues and the Delta/Cajun C.C.R. sound.
The OM (and NO builder creates a better OM) is feather light and its’ voice is wonderfully dry.woody and yet rich and mellow beyond belief.
I don’t believe that there is a better translator of wishes to end result than Santa Cruz Guitar Company……
But listen to others on this Forum…..they speak the truth from experience and the heart.
Enjoy the journey…It’s a very special ride.

After the recent above posts………I’M GLAD I LIVE TOO FAR AWAY TO ATTEND…….besides sounds like the humidity inside the sweat lodge might be a bit much for “The Ramuda”.
BUT…Y’All enjoy !!!!
A new Santa Cruz and a new/old project Harmony…..Tad you certainly are covering all the bases in the guitar world.
Yep Dig I agree with you about the OLD Master Adi that Mr. Hoover uses on the 1934 models…..My 34 Zorro is SOOO very bell like.
I know we all expect our Newly built SC guitars to “open up with age” but when the wood used in the 34 models is so very old to begin with I think we pretty much should only expect to hear a sound that is a just a bit greater than than the sum of the parts.
Again congrats…it is wonderful….I’m happy for you….looks like a real keeper.
OKOKOK…Y’ALL Passed
Oh MY..Very Nice…Hope it sounds as great as it looks…Details PLEASE.
But, as you have often told me You’re a sucker for SUNBURST.
Well said Tad.
My 1934 is the only “New” Sc I have ever owned.
All my others have been purchased pre-owned.
I do have to say that the very personal experience of what each of us hears in a particular instrument is so variable.
I am almost totally deaf in my left ear and my right ear has compensated but also aged.
I don’t know that I could even hear the things that Ac S. is describing. and I wonder about T.M.I. overload also….but I wish him luck.
Old 97 and Indexless…..Y’All are MUSICIANS and structured People….. I’m a “Let the sheets fly” kind of guy.
But then I know what “Let The Sheet Fly” means…LOLOLOLO
Maestro….You truly are a truth teller…thanks for providing me with a “reasonable” point of discussion to have with Dee Vis a Vie my very reasonable “need” for a SCGC 12 string.
I will however have to also justify a proper “Controlled” corral for it.
