Perfectly stated Bert
Just wonderful….Thanks you two.
…..no I love all the tourists……
BS Big Mon…. I to live in a tourist area….we call em Snowbirds……This time of year we stay home and entertain close friends.
We moved off our sailboat 25 years ago to live in a small fishing/tomato/ strawbery growing community on the S.W. Coast of Fl.
Then we were “Discovered”……….But with all of the $$$ that has been invested here……We still don’t have a really good Guitar store, although some of the biggest names in music/ recording /entertainment winter just down the street from me…… I guess Bentleys/Ferraries/Range Rovers and Rolls are more important.
Like many things in this world….especially when it comes to history, “Truth” may NOT equal facts.
I expect that RH deals in Facts….. Thanks RH

Thanks for the explanation….I should have recgonized the progression. After all Matt Hayden has been trying to intoduce musical ”stuff” into this front porch pickers head….obviously he still has his work cut out for him.
Bert…. I worked for Bertram Yachts for a number of years. For those who don’t know they were at one time the finest blue water sport fishing boats in the world and were able to handle Huge seas and bring home the fish. I was a test Capt. for the 63 ft. series…..a hell of a boat.
Bertram is a famous name in Florida.
I’m so very glad to know you both.

I know ……I was just being a bit sarcastic.
Richard and Carolyn know me well and I know that they chose the best/correct top for me regardless of “current popular” gradings.
Congrats on your new SC…it’s going to sound as gooda as it looks.
By the way….is there a phonetic pronunciation for your forum handle ? or a nick name we can use.
January 19, 2022 at 12:38 am in reply to: Santa Cruz Coffee Break #35 Zooming’ with Richard Hoover #6809The next time I go to trim my fruit trees I’ll likely be remembering this podcast. Said Digdog.
I’m watching the Wolf Moon plus one day come up North, NorthEast and smelling the scent of burning oak in our fireplace sitting heavey on a ,for Florida, cold clear night . The humidity is in the 50s and the Ramuda is dry and clear voiced.
Another member of the forum posted a picture of his “Master” Moon Spruce top…..My upcoming 000 is ONLY a AAA……. oh well Se La Vie.
Dee is out at a gig and I’m doing what all us “entertainment Widowers” do and finding happiness in my guitars and having a sip of irish whiskey and thinking how lucky I am as i try out some of the chord progressions that Matt Hayden sent me………But I always seem to fall back on old habits and that’s OK.
The world is upside down but my guitars center “The Wa” and I will sleep well tonight.

First….Thanks RH for the info on both Moon Spruce and on Walnut…….Selection, the building artistry, the reputation, the experience ALL play into the tonal voice of the finished product…. and few do it as well as,and none do it better than, the crew of SCGC. I’m pleased I specked M.S. for the upcoming 000.
Second…Thanks Tad and Richard (Big Mon) Newman for the rapid respnse to the subject appearing on the Forum….Well Done.
Third…. The Youtube production values were very good.
Fourth…..I kept looking at the Canary Date Palm over RH’s shoulder and then lifting my eyes to the one in my front yard……it created a very positive connection.
Fair Winds,
Hank

Hang Ten Moondoggie……..Does salt water age the guitar top and give it better sustain ?
As explained to me by Matt @ Eddies Guitars and By Carolyn Sills and By personal research on several tone wood suppliers websites and by Tad Laird, I have learned the following.
The Spruce is cut at a certain time of the Moon phase when sap is not actively moving through the tree. The tree when felled is left laying “Downhill” and that moves the sap/resins to the “LOW” end of the log via gravity. My understanding is that the felled log is left in this position for some period of time.
All of this process is said to make for a “Stiffer”/drier end product. The end result is a more responsive top.
I have a SC 000 on order that is African Blackwood/ Moon Spruce on order.
I have a F that is Maple/ German so I’ll be interested to see if I can hear a difference.
If my info above is incorrect I apologize .
Daniel,
A couple of nights ago i was posting almost the same feeling….then I hit the wrong key and it all dissapeared.
I play almost everyday but I’m playing like S#*T and can’t seem to focus on anything.
matt H.has been verykind to give me some jazz lessons and Digdog has suggested some excellent tips of learning Bossa Nova but my attempts to advancemy playing are flailing and frustrating.
I am losing interest even in my own style at which some folks thought I was pretty good……And I have a new 000 due in a couple of weeks.
I’m acutly aware of my oncoming 75th Trip Around The Sun and I simply can’t understand How I Got This F^%#King old..
I too think I may winnow out the Ramuda…but I can’t get up the heart to make a decision as to which of them I would sell….ALL are great to ride and each speaks to me in its own special voice..
But as I have a bit of life experience, I can tell you that “This To Will Pass”. Your Talant come from deep in your soul and the avalanche of lifes issues will melt and allow the light to warm up your desires again.
I’m going to look for inspiration and promise in the time I have left if only because this is the only trip we get….and the only regrets are the things left undone.
Dee is rehearsing her Patsy Cline tribute set list as I write this. She is in her early 70s and after 33 years as a trauma/ O.R. nurse she has found her lifes joy in singing and performing….. She is my hero and I’ll follow her lead.
I’ve always said “Never Give Up”…..so I would say to you the same….remember Tis is the only shot we get at this life.
Peace and Fair Winds Friend….Play ON.Bih Mon,
You know I mean NO disrepect to you or Tad. You and I have had many wonderful phone conversations , as I have had with Tad and other members of the Forum, and I consider Y’all friends.
It’s just that ,maybe because of my advanced years, that when I go to put my witty and/or informative thoughts on the forum by the time I get thru Captcha affirming I am a living breathing human, I lose my train of thought.
My problem….I guess it’s just the world we live in now.
Peace & Fair Winds,
Hank
Bottom line…..to your ownselve be true….make it your own.
As I’m a very marginal player I HAVE to make any song my own LOL
