Hi, Sad to see ol’ John pass.  I was reading his Wikipedia entry and discovered that the cancer he had way back in ’98 was exactly the same that I had in 2017, years ago, but I managed to avoid the surgery (so far).

So I say down and video#d three JP numbers that have been in my solo repertoire for some years.

I have to say that I apologise for not using my Santa Cruz for them!

Cheer John, thanks for all the music!

Thanks for the comments so far – more welcomed – I have a 2012 build – originally at Northern Lights in Littleton NH from 2012 to 2014 – when someone bought it and pretty soon decided that the 5″ depth didn’t get on with his left shoulder, so put it on US Ebay. I convinced him to send it to me in the UK, ajd all was fine.

It hasn’t been a performing guitar for me and has taken a longtime to open up but in the last few months it seems to have opened up well.

I have to feel string to take it out because of the Ameritage case!

Mine is sitka over hog, which is fine -but I’d love to play one with adi/EIR!

    Hi,

    I have three archtops – a ’34 Gibson L-4 (’35 model) a 2007 Eastman AR805, and a Harmony Monterrey.

    They are all fine instruments, see this;

Long time in replying – but thanks Chris – doesn’t look lke I could “drop” my RS into a J45 case.

Oh well back to weigh lifting at the gym (which I do anyway).

    Hi folks, me again.

Natcherly I love my RS, but sadly I don’t love the Ameritage case. Yes it is safe in there and it came across the ocean safe and sound from  …New Hampshire (I think)  – but I am old and nearly dead and find it just a tad too heavy.

I’ve been thinking about buying a new (cheaper) case for it, but of course the RS is all about the depth – 4 & 15/16″ at the butt and 4″ by the heel.

Just wondering – does anybody have a Gibson j45 that they could measure for me? ‘cos I could probably find a case for one of them.

Hi Zorro, (loved you in the movie with Katherine Zeta Jones btw !

I’m very touched by your offer to get me suitably “hatted” when I play my SC guitar. Sadly, I don’t seem to be able to send you a private message. The format of this forum is very different to other forums that I frequent.

I wold like to be suitably “adorned” and would love to give you my address as a private message somehow, and, of course, to compensate you for the item.

    Regards,

    Ol’ Andy

Hi, newbie (to this forum) here:

I used to say that when I went on vacation/holiday and didn’t take a guitar with me if I was away from it for two weeks, it would take me two months to get back to an acceptable standard.

I had a trigger finger op done on 22nd Feb and had my right hand bandaged for two weeks. As I couldn’t do much with the right, my left hand did all the lifting and other stuff, and I’m still trying to get it to move properly. Dunno which hand is the worst. Good job I’m a lefty playing righty!

Hi Richard, thank you for your fulsome reply. It is great to get a response from the “man himself!”  I’m very happy with my “RS” number 6501 which I believe was built in 2012 but acquired some time later.

I need wider fret boards  – 1 & 13/16″ nuts are my preference and so all of my flat-tops are 12 fretters, and the “RS” style seemed to be an essential member of my humble collection.  it is one of only two non slotted headstock  flat tops.

I have seen from the ‘net that the sunbursts have varied greatly since introduction, but I am delighted by the ‘burst on mine, so much so, that I’m a bit scared of gigging it!

I applaud you strategy about respecting the finest American designs of the 20th C, whilst retaining your own thing! – most notably the H13, which I’ve long admired.

If interested (and you dolt have to be!)  here’s a short video of me playing mine and singing a Jerry Jeff Walker song about an old Roy Smeck guitar.

Thanks again and best regards from the UK!

Thanks, all for the welcome! I’m so gal that we now have a forum about Santa Cruz guitars even though I only have one (oh the shame of it) and I have mostly Collings guitars (hangs head in shame).

I hope that this will be a “chatty” forum rather than just a “for sale” “thinning the herd” one. The “Other” forum is still the larger one but the Moderators (or at least one of them) seems to be killing it.

I look forward to lots more chats.

My Amateurish videos (well they are just me sitting in my conservatory talking/playing to a Zoom Q4) were originally conceived to show my band members songs I did solo and new ones we might add to our repertoire.

The “Chatty” videos started when people on “the other forum” kept grumbling about how terribly difficult it was to restrings slotted head-stocks, and grew from there.  Somewhat interrupted and complicated by my throat cancer and treatment last year, life has changed for me – as has my voice – but I try to continue to add informative and helpful items, and am always happy to receive ideas for new videos.

I don’t assume to “know everything” but it seems some of my videos are well received and I’m approaching a 1000 subscribers.  Please note  – I do not affiliate or attempt to “monetarize” so no adverts or commercial “plugs”.

Anyway, thanks all for the kind words,

    Ol’ Andy.

It is my wife’s second 70th Birthday today so I’m taking her to the zoo. No, don;t even think that – I intend to bring her back as well! A

HaHa – “quite a bit!” – not as good as quite a bit, but I’ll take it as a compliment.

    Thanks Scott,

BTW – I hope that you can understand my more recent “chatty” videos – sadly my voice/mouth has been changed by recent cancer treatment.
