Hi Richard, thank you for your fulsome reply. It is great to get a response from the “man himself!”  I’m very happy with my “RS” number 6501 which I believe was built in 2012 but acquired some time later.

I need wider fret boards  – 1 & 13/16″ nuts are my preference and so all of my flat-tops are 12 fretters, and the “RS” style seemed to be an essential member of my humble collection.  it is one of only two non slotted headstock  flat tops.

I have seen from the ‘net that the sunbursts have varied greatly since introduction, but I am delighted by the ‘burst on mine, so much so, that I’m a bit scared of gigging it!

I applaud you strategy about respecting the finest American designs of the 20th C, whilst retaining your own thing! – most notably the H13, which I’ve long admired.

If interested (and you dolt have to be!)  here’s a short video of me playing mine and singing a Jerry Jeff Walker song about an old Roy Smeck guitar.

Thanks again and best regards from the UK!

Thanks, all for the welcome! I’m so gal that we now have a forum about Santa Cruz guitars even though I only have one (oh the shame of it) and I have mostly Collings guitars (hangs head in shame).

I hope that this will be a “chatty” forum rather than just a “for sale” “thinning the herd” one. The “Other” forum is still the larger one but the Moderators (or at least one of them) seems to be killing it.

I look forward to lots more chats.

My Amateurish videos (well they are just me sitting in my conservatory talking/playing to a Zoom Q4) were originally conceived to show my band members songs I did solo and new ones we might add to our repertoire.

The “Chatty” videos started when people on “the other forum” kept grumbling about how terribly difficult it was to restrings slotted head-stocks, and grew from there.  Somewhat interrupted and complicated by my throat cancer and treatment last year, life has changed for me – as has my voice – but I try to continue to add informative and helpful items, and am always happy to receive ideas for new videos.

I don’t assume to “know everything” but it seems some of my videos are well received and I’m approaching a 1000 subscribers.  Please note  – I do not affiliate or attempt to “monetarize” so no adverts or commercial “plugs”.

Anyway, thanks all for the kind words,

        Ol’ Andy.

It is my wife’s second 70th Birthday today so I’m taking her to the zoo. No, don;t even think that – I intend to bring her back as well! A

HaHa – “quite a bit!” – not as good as quite a bit, but I’ll take it as a compliment.

          Thanks Scott,

BTW – I hope that you can understand my more recent “chatty” videos – sadly my voice/mouth has been changed by recent cancer treatment.

            Sounds good to me!

I’m a Brit BTW so politics is a whole ‘nother thing here – I’ve got Quora for that.

            Thanks for your speedy reply.

We are ALL mediocre – but some are more (or less) than others …it isn’t a competition (thank goodness!)

Hi, I’m a polite, old English gentleman who neither rants nor swears nor seeks to upset any applecarts.

I am somewhat sickly and virtually housebound after cancer treatment last year. I have joined various fora in order to learn and to help and advise.

I’ve been banned two or three times on the AGF. and two other British pals have also been banned. It is so sad that one or more mods are seemingly over enthusiastic with their enforcement.

No-one wants rudeness or antisocial behaviour and fora need to have to have rules and Mods who should be respected.  But surely we are grownups.

I do hope I haven’t offended anyone by saying this. I look forward to joining in and contributing to this forum.

(Even though I mostly play Collings !!)

                Regards to all.  Ol’Andy

Hi, I.m Andy and I play mostly Collings guitars (shock horror!) but I have one SC …a wondrous “RS”.

I play all 12fret flat-tops,initially because that was the only way to get wider fretboards, but later I learned of the other benefits of the 12 fret designs.

Looking forward to interesting discussions here.

Oh btw I’m a Brit living in south east England
