Haven’t heard anything that sounded bad with dalbergia melanoxylon. As Cyndi Burton and Jeff Elliott said, “African Blackwood is to Brazilian rosewood as Brazilian rosewood is to Indian rosewood.” I’ll take their word for it – the instrument they built for Ralph Towner which was spruce/ABW is one of the best classicals I’ve heard.
Sample of that instrument: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=swVNSa8AAic
I think the key is whether the instrument has adequate structure to stand up to steel strings without imploding and have good sustain while at the same time being light enough to have good volume and ring out.
It’s kind of a high-wire act that balances structure and sound, and SCGC does it really well.
Old 97, can you post a link to the double diminished thing?
Working on chord melody stuff, trying to be able to approach new music and get it more readily.
…thank you for an image that will linger….
Reading it now, and enjoying it thoroughly.
Bring it down and I’ll set it up for you. And if you want to unload the 5-17-T, I might be interested – I’d put a new neck on it. 🙂
On hot days, it already doubles as a sweat lodge – need to leave the door open 😀
Yup, I have a Larrivee Parlour 01 Walnut and it was def the pick of the litter.
So many good choices…..
That’s right purty. Can’t wait to hear it….
Great stuff!
MWhen you were talking about Bob Brozman, it reminded me that I have pictures from that 35th anniversary jam.
Can’t wait to hear it.
Good stuff. When you come up to Niles I’ll pull out the DR for ya.
That sounds amazing. One thing I do slightly differently: I took the endpin reamer, drilled a hole through it, and put on a handle so I ream manually now. After one or two experiences with broken finish, I never have to deal with it again, at the cost of a few minutes’ manual work.
New pickups are hard. I get to the point where I get something dialed in and then something a LOT better comes out, and it’s worth the improvement….and James May knows what he’s about.
I have to wonder how that pickup would sound in a blend with a Sunrise – it’d be a HUGE sound.
Daniel, Every day above ground is a good one. I have to remind myself of that when my hands hurt, which is most of the time now – seriously, this much time on a keyboard plus a guitar has deleterious effects. I’m gonna have to quit one of ‘em, and I’m hoping I can afford for it to be work.
My next-door neighbors’ kids, who are basically pretty good, did lay into their parents with an “OK, Boomer,” or three last week. Mom was teary-eyed, I think, less bc of the phrase than being reminded that she’s reached five decades worth of [wisdom|hot air] depending on your viewpoint. We had to make her a hot toddy and feed her cookies to cheer her up.
