March 21, 2022 at 4:53 pm in reply to: Santa Cruz Coffee Break #39 Zoomin’ with Richard Hoover #7114After watching this podcast I wanted to post a couple of images that exemplify the comments that RH talks about when considering what he looks for in new employees.
I received the B-day “Card” and the left over African Blackwood pieces as a birthday gift along with lots of other SCGC gear from Carolyn.
I am a average player who has only a small ramuda of SC guitars…. but Richard Hoover and Carolyn and all the artists at SCGC have treated me like I was Guitar Royalty.
It says a lot about the SC Guitar family that they would go the extra mile to put a smile on an old mans face and create instruments that will be enjoyed by that Old Man’s Family for generations to come and will have such personal expressions from the artists who created such hierlooms.
Maestro Hoover , Carolyn Sills and ALL of the SCGC family……Thank You.

Happy Birthday Daniel from a florida fan of your Mandolin artistry.

If there is an Academy Award for Podcast this is a Hands Down Winner….Thank you so much Y’all.
I communicate with John on a regualr basis and he was one of (along with Tad and Richard Newman and others) that I consulted with in planning the 000. In fact it was the 1920’s Martin 000 Style 45 that John features in TDIII that I had Carolyn and Richard H. use as a Homage.
John told me about The Guitar Detective last year upon the first edit…..I have given him my order for the 1st edition. He says maybe by end of this year it will be available.
He is a very gracious and giving man who has great stories to tell.
I have NEVER heard a guitar voice like this one.
I own and play some pretty fine instruments (not to the level they deserve by any means) but I have been racking my brain to describe the sound of this 000. I have tuned it in DADGAD and have been playing several DADGAD progressions and “Chord Scales” in D, Middle D, G , Dm , etc.
While I was waitng today for a “Special Assignment”, that did not take place, I thought of a phrase that is pretty damn close to the sound of this guitar….. “It rings like the Bells Of St Marys on a cold clear Christmas morning”
Maybe over the top….but that’s what it sounds like.
By the way… I do not normally name guitars. But, this one being Black on the bottom and sides and creamy white on top…..I have named it Guinness.
Thanks for the comments Mates……Positive comments from my friends on this forum mean a lot.
It’s in the Corral and being introduced to the Ramuda. I’ve saddled it in DADGAD…..to my ear it was born for that tuning.
I don’t know the age of the woods but if it sounds like this now I am not worring about any “opening” up……
And did I say it is F-ing BEAUTIFUL !!!!!
UPS says this afternoon……Matt sure did a superb Demo……..
It’ll be in DADGAD BY tonight……..Along with a Tall pint of Guinness.
Just a note. This guitar was designed from the start to live in DADGAD tuning.
I will be stringing with SCGC DADGAD Lites upon it’s arrival.R.H. chose the woods….I designed the bling ……And Miss C says it’s “Elegant”.
If it’s voice is equel to its’ beauty….I’m in love.
