Mine’s set about as low as yours (30 years old and original neck set), maybe just a bit higher, and I get plenty out of it, very warm and clear.
What’s it doing that’s wrong? If it plays well and the action suits, you should be fine.
Don’t get wrapped around the axle about string pressure etc unless you’re actually having problems like too high action and not enough saddle to adjust……

Want. The maple FTC is the jazz acoustic of my dreams, albeit perhaps a bit more expensive than I can justify….

The slothead thing is why I have a 00-29 rather than a Don Edwards. I have a 128 year old Martin with a slothead and it is a beast to tune, as well as a 12-fret slothead, same thing. They get new strings less then others bc I don’t care for fighting with them.
In terms of presence, it’s just voiced differently than the Skye, which brings the auditory weight of cocobolo/spruce. The DE and 00-29 are voiced a little more evenly with a bit less of a bump in the frequency range at either end of the compass, to my ear, but that’s what I like about them. They’re open and airy and friendly….
Going to have to read it. What sale method provides the author with the largest payout?
Will do. Whoever wants it next, PM me with your address and I’ll get it in the mail.
Good stories.
I like to drink Macallan 18 with a ‘91 OM cutaway…..and the 2012 00-29.
I’m debating about another…there’s an instrument for sale locally that I might just get.
I’m trying to be a player, not an acquirer, but these instruments really are that good and that consistent.
Hi all – just finished the book – @Hank, do you want me to mail it back to you, or does anyone else want it forwarded to them?
I had one shipped across the Atlantic stop in Madrid for a couple of days….and the endpoint as Germany. How\ that happened is beyond me.
The Cowboy Singer is a fine guitar – it’ll be hard to top it.
I share your enthusiasm for the model. They’re very special…mine is all warmth and overtones.
You should see how much fun it is when we all gather at the Mothership in Santa Cruz!
Some good jams there.Micawber is named after a particular character in David Copperfield, FWIW. He’s an honorable man in a dishonorable world.
And yeah, I have taken the low string off too; it’s weird that it gets in the way, but it does.
FWIW this thread had me playing Brown Sugar in Open G through my micawbered tele and DR until Beth told me I had to knock it off 🙂

Thanks for the kind words, Hank.
My 00-29 has been used for live play for about eight years now and it is quite loud enough to stand up acoustically in a jam. It amplifies nicely as well using a high-quality stereo SBT and outboard preamp.
All in all it’s a treasure.

Why the 00-29 over the DE?
Solid peghead. Slotheads look nice but I prefer stringing a solid-peghead instrument.
I have to say my 00-29’s as good as they get. 🙂

I’ll suggest looking for a 00-29. It seems as if there are (relatively) a lot of them y comparison with other models, and they show up regularly on various sites.
I’ve got one and it’s a good companion to my OM, very rich & warm; I spend a fair amount of time on it these days.
