If anyone is in the know, would you mind PMing me the price? I am hesitant to contact SCGC without a commitment to buy, in case it is outside my price range. I generally only need to know if it’s more expense than the Collings cases or not and whether they are larger or smaller (e.g., for the dreadnought shape).
I, too, look forward to reading SCGC’s reply.
Based on my limited experience of playing one F model and two OMG models in the same store (all Sitka/EIR), it seems the F model has more brilliance, and the OMGs a bit darker.
Not sure I feel 100% comfortable about the idea of ancient Kauri being on guitars. Besides being a protected species with spiritual significance to the native Maori (this is drilled into the NZ education system and in various museum visits), the Kauri guitars I’ve tried from local New Zealand builders (including Laurie Williams) seem rather quiet to my ears. Then again, it’s likely SCGC harvested these legally and is able to bring out projective tone from them with their voicing techniques, but it seems to go against their rationale for not using Madagascan Rosewood, as other builders such as Martin obtained it when it was technically still legal. I guess the NZ is not suffering from significant human rights abuses though.
I’d say variety is the spice of life. I’d go for a Rosewood SCGC if you already have a Mahogany Taylor. If you find the GC shape comfortable, an OM might work for you.
I already provided examples (Bourgeois’ Generation Series and H&D’s Road Series) that are closer than your Bentley or Rolls Royce analogies.
