Options for low end gratification (without buying a bass):
1. Go electric. There are some nice Danelectros out there, and electrics are easier to build.
2. Go mando – get a mandocello. Bizarrely, these are more available than baritone guitars. Eastman make some good ones.

Safe travels and fair winds.

c’est pas grave, as they say here. 🙂
Hank,
That’s how Chet Atkins usually played. One foot on the floor, one foot on the cross bar of the stool.I know several excellent players in the UK who stand up to play and sing then sitdown to play instrumentals. Sitting just makes the whole instrument more stable. And it’s easier to play difficult passages if you don’t have to hold up the neck while you’re moving your fingers.

I would have thought one the lighter woods, like maple. 😉
Nice chair Hank!

Found it.
Ahh, no. I wish I was that young, talented, and thin. 😀
Nice stuff. I’ve set Patrick a friend request. Thanks for sharing!

I should mention that it was recordeed on my iPhone 8 with no external equipment, outside about 15 feet from the road, and in a bit of a breeze. So the sound quality will reflect that.
I used my “player’s grade (now)” SCGC dreadnought SN D3501 which desperately needs new strings.

I gave it a go using an arrangement I worked out and with which I am mildly happy. I hope you like it.

Hard to say… I can’t find the video! 🙂
Ahh, and now Charlie Watts too.
Great drummer, apparently a gentleman as well.

I hope I live to at least 84.
And in the less than immortal words of Paul McCartney:
Someone’s knocking on the door/ somebody ringing the bell
Do me a favor, open the door let ’em in…Sister Suzie, Brother John
Martin Luther, Phil & Don
Brother Michael, Auntie Gin
Open the door, let ’em in….Daniel
très cool!
congratulations to Carolyn!
When is she appearing on the podcast? 🙂
Daniel
Sorry it didn’t work out.
Better luck next time!

Matt, Just come. The border here is open and I haves extra mandos. 🙂
Mr. Jelly, Yep. I can take up a lot of space when I play my own rhythm arts too. I try to back off a lot when I play with others.
Hank, When I come to Florida I’ll bring a mando. I’m not giving up mandolin by a long shot. Just realising I am my own best rhythm guitar player.
There are lots of things I do when I play rhythm that I find it difficult to communicate verbally. And often trying to show someone who already plays as well or better than I do can seem condescending. So I usually just get on with whatever the guitarist is doing as long as it’s in time and in tune.🙂
Fair winds all!
Daniel
Cool!
Would you try the DADGAD repertoire in B or drop it to C?
I bought my Paul Lestock Arrow G5 from those guys. They were excellent to deal with.
