SCGC would have an Ameritage for sure. Mono makes a great gig bag, TKL makes a great case for your guitar as well. Good luck on the quest!

We use EVO frets for facility and durability along with personal preference, like on our Scott Law signature model. Regarding control of tone, stainless or Evo frets are contributors rather than the sole cause of  a guitar’s tone.

Fret material does affect tone just like that of the nut and saddle. I’m not clear if I should call this mass, weight or density, though the harder the material the brighter the tone. This shouldn’t be confused with EQ (Bass vs,Treble) Rather I refer here to the scale of warm, dark and rounded to bright, clear and definitive.

The saddle will have the most effect as all string energy passes through it anytime a string is plucked. The nut contributes to tone only when plucked in the open position. The frets transfer string energy and tone only when the string is fretted.
Players have several choices to brighten up a muddy sounding instrument through products that claim to ‘improve” tone, but really just change it. For saddles and nuts ivory is warmer than bone and fossilized ivory to brass are on the bright end of the scale. As to the effect of fret material like EVO, it will technically add clarity but that may be indistinguishable from the combined effect of nut, saddle and string composition.

When designing for custom sound it is the cumulative effect of all contributing factors and components that make any dramatic difference. The choice of tonewoods and/or strings can overshadow whatever fret durometer may contribute to the sound.of your guitar.
Within our range of choices for achieving custom tone the composition of the frets alone wouldn’t be a determining factor unless combined with other more effective contributors.

                        Hi Walter,

That’s an interesting question, let me sure I understand it. You are looking for the total tension of all the strings combined?

I just spoke with Hank, he and Dee are fine, I guess the surge came to their property line so they are high and dry. All guitars survived as did the wine cellar. He did say that it is total destruction, things are just gone, but he wanted you all to know all is well.

                            Hey Luke,

You should ask him, he said he was more than open to phone calls. I’m not sure on that, it’s not using a registered trade made, it’s making something out of a sheet, I’d be interested to know what you find out. The pick really did sound great until I left it at Gryphon.

                            All the best

I played it today and sent you a PM. I also got to play THE Nick Lucas that Richard used as the basis for the H-13 model. The original is stunning beyond words but #666 is a guitar that is on another plane, and it’s 1/5 the price of the Lucas, too much fun for me

                                  Physics first, as always!

The mass of the neck affects how much of the string energy “chimneys” up the neck or not,
A light weight neck becomes an integral part of the guitar’s resonance producing a more open and airy presence.
This is desirable in some styles of playing and complimentary to certain repertoires. It can be achieved with a slotted peghead,  open back tuners, lower density neck wood and even reducing neck mass through joining it to the body at the 12th vs. 14th fret.

A “heavy” neck blocks string energy from being “lost” by limiting it from entering the neck allowing more of the guitar’s volume to be projected from the top and sound hole. This give the player the advantage of focus and enhanced projection if they want to cut through in an ensemble and be heard further away.

One would likely choose a lighter necked, 12 fret, slotted peghead, open geared, smaller body in an intimate venue for singer songwriter vocal accompaniment. The player who wants to cut through other instruments while showcasing single note virtuosity may choose a jazz style guitar with a heavy maple neck, big solid peghead and weightier enclosed tuners.

It is the combination of all these things that make the perceptible change between the two. It would be a pretty subtle difference in two otherwise identical guitars if the only variable was a solid vs slotted peghead. In this case I would suggest the decision should be based on cosmetic preference, rather than sound.

                                  All the best,
                                  Richard.
