I’m not sure about a full scale meetup (I’m a little shy). GF and I are visiting the left coast the last week of August, first stop will be Santa Cruz, and I’m surely gonna drop by Sylvan.
We’re super excited, i think last I was in Santa Cruz was 20 years ago, my first time there was 1975.

It’s a three hour tour for me. I’m nearby and can do with a little lead time. I’ll bring 2 SCs + the new kid. Tad, this is why you need a trailer…..

Due to my truck overheating while leaving Lake Tahoe and now sitting in an auto shop parking lot for the next week, I’m not going to Santa Cruz this month. 0nce the truck is examined and the estimates come on for repairs, I’ll be returning to Tahoe to drive it home or declare it junk.

I think we’ll reach out to the maestro and see what his schedule looks like, and what ideas we can come up with for a large venue where we can plan on getting together safely regardless of where we are with covid or whatever’s next in line – Sylvan would be a fun part of it, but if we got more than 5 or 6 people there, we’d about max out their space. Maybe, we could arrange a few meet-ups, and do some Zoom thing?
I’ll reach out to RH and see what his thoughts are –

I’m less than 3 hours from Santa Cruz, looking forward to hearing more updates on this! I’d love to be able to make it!

The truck is repaired. The radiator cap failed. Getting it this Saturday.
I’m back in the game.

I’ll probably be in SC or nearby the weekend of the 11/12th – staying up the coast for a couple of days.

I’ve kinda dropped the ball – had gigs every weekend, and a bunch of orders to get out during the week – I’ll try to get on this first thing this next week!
-
August 8, 2022 at 4:44 pm #7596
I’ll be in Pescadero from Fri-Sun, and thus able to meet up in SC.
If this weekend doesn’t work out, I think I’m good through the first week of Sept.

OK – I made some effort – (minimal, I’ll admit, but – )
Richard has offered to let us get together at the shop on a Saturday, when they don’t have employees active, thus reducing Coves issues – We could do a podcast possibly, and we could just grab a bunch of food and drink from Costco across the street, and just hang out and pass some guitars around, and get some insite into any of our specific guitars from Richard, and we can make sure there’s time for anyone to head over to Sylvan if they have cash burning a hole in their pocket and want to try some new ones. Anyone local who might have one for sale could bring it by too –
I have asked Richard to let us know if there are any specific Saturdays that might work best for him. And if we get enough people who want to show up, we can always move everything over to the park!
I will post more info as soon as I have it, but spread the word!!

Sounds good. I’ll see if I can get Svea and Gretchen to make it. Gretchen has a 000 and Svea had one of the Steve Swan 1942 Dreads.

I spoke to Tom Walzem yesterday.
Put him on the list. Svea is ready.

For giggles, I asked Google to give me driving directions to Sylvan Music. It said… “Sorry, we could not calculate driving directions from ‘Laon, 02000, France’ to ‘1521 Mission St, Santa Cruz, CA 95060, USA'”
I suppose Google doesn’t know everything, then.
Have a great time!

Still around whatever weekend works for everyone else.

I apologize to everyone – I had thrown a few dates out to RH to hopefully insure he’d be able to join us, but I’ve not heard back. I’m pretty sure he’d love to see us, but the demands on his time and attention are quite high – and my own schedule has been rather congested. I will be making a new effort – and we’ll get this together soon!

I’m good in October and beyond.

I live a couple blocks away from Sylvan and went by today. They just got 2 new OM’s in, and I believe an OOO.

Still only an hour and change away and about to go part-time for work, so I’m available whenever.

Sounds like some congrats are in order Matt!

January 17, 2023 at 8:05 am #7963
Thanks! Yeah, I’m slouching towards retirement.
Going to get as close a copy as possible of the 1991 OM for my 60th, I think, with the current improvements – domed top, angled saddle, different bridge shape, etc.
-
January 17, 2023 at 12:48 pm #7964
Go for it Matt, you’ve been thinking on those specs for a long time.

Hank, waiting for the new employment to take effect – not spending the money ‘til my ducks are in a row. Then it’ll be time. And hopefully the shop can take the old one in for some needed TLC.
I suspect that a mothership meetup won’t be possible until March at least – damage from the flooding has blocked routes 9, 92, 84, and 152 through the hills, 17 is a parking lot, and 156 to 1 isn’t in great shape either. 1 has some huge slides.
Going to be a bit of a challenge to get to SC on a reasonable timeframe until Caltrans gets the roads fixed.
-
January 19, 2023 at 4:48 am #7974
Yeah – we really blew it in terms of getting together last year. I take the blame – I was not aggressive enough in trying to put it together, and had a whole lotta personal flotsam to deal with.
Buy IT IS TIME – we’ll let the roads get cleared up and let the land dry out a while, and then I’ll get the maestro to give us a date that we can get together at the shop and have a great get together – March/April may be the best we can do, but stay tuned!!
-

I’d love to attend if something happens. I’m just up in Petaluma. I still haven’t been able to make it to the shop since I moved out to the Left Coast and I’m dying to visit.
