Quite frequently I read about builders like Jeff Traugott who once worked at SCGC. Are there other highly regarded builders who got their start at SCGC? I figure people on this Forum would know.

Oh Boy…what a list, Tad should jump in, I think he knows them all, Roy McCalster comes to mind, it’s been a very fertile shop.

Carmel guitars lasted a few years.

What a great question!  I got no more than have already been offered – but I know that there are a number of good builders and techs out there who spent some time at SCGC. Whether they picked up their skills, refined their skills, or just broadened them is a fair question. And while many of them may not be “known” by a large audience, they are undoubtedly appreciated by their local guitarists –

Let’s be grateful that Richard taught as many people as he did.

His work has been foundational to the lineage of builders, not just in the US, but worldwide.
