Tim is a collector- in this case, a collector of guitar tonewoods. Tim specializes in super-rare, hard-to-find reclaimed tonewood. Due to his friendship with Richard and the shared beliefs/policies of SCGC, he found a mutual collaboration with the company. From Ft. Ross Cedar on the California coast to the Koa from the islands of Hawaii, a little different and a lot of fun!

Here’s tim’s story on the wood

                  ”

Been watching some of your old Vidcasts and I came across #95 with Steve Haberichter which I was watching, and he pulls out the Fort Ross/Meteor Flame Pernambuco guitar.

An interesting backstory to this is at one of the NAMM’s Steve came up to me, because he knows I’m into wood, and asks me to let him know if I come across any wild exotic woods he might like so he can have SCGC make a guitar for him for sale?

None of the other dealers has ever asked me this even though I’ve met them at the show and house parties SCGC has thrown.  So coincidentally I told him I got some killer figure Pernambuco and that Richard is going to be making me a guitar out of it; but I have enough for three to four  guitars with super nice backs and a bit less figured sides.

I showed him the pictures and told him what the wood would probably costs as sets, so he could estimate his price of the build.  He said he’s very interested!

BTW this is the Pernambuco I was referring to in the interview you guys did with me where it came from the fence from Brazil.

Anyway, Richard made me two guitars at the same time, and because it would matter more from a dealer standpoint I chose the set with two knots on the back for my guitar, so Steve could have the cleaner one.  Both got paired with what I consider mastergrade Fort Ross tops. So that’s the guitar Steve has in the video, and subsequently he bought another guitar with the back and sides from the same boards that were in the Private Vault guitar, which unfortunately was made after NAMM.”

One afternoon I was at SCGC watching Richard look over a pickup truck load of wood planks.
