I have a personal and family relationship with the redwoods local-ish to SCGC… most specifically Big Basin.  I recently “learned” that the Tunnel 13 was from Oregon.  Are any of the offered redwood tops  from local trees?

Here’s the response from the Master….this is one of the best parts of what I do here, enjoy the magic…From Richard Hoover

“The Santa Cruz Mountains was hit by a record setting deluge a couple of decades back.
Majestic Ancient Sunken Redwoods we’re dislodged, carried down the raging San Lorenzo River and into the sea to be eventually beached by the pounding surf onto the Boardwalk’s Playa.
The edge of the tree pictured has ancient burn scars and annual rings suggesting it was a over millennia old when it fell.

I’ve been negotiating with a  colorful local woodsman for years to get him to cut loose with this treasure. Right before Christmas he dropped by with these samples which may yield 5 full sized tops and  maybe 6 FireFly or parlor side sets. After air drying for more than 20 years, we’ll be taking orders for their guitar builds after a few weeks of our climate controlled acclimation process.

          A real Christmas gift!

Good things come to those who wait….Beautiful looking wood…Cool that the natural progression of growth and the construtive destruction of Nature can produce materials that are reborn as such beautiful instruments. Richard Hoover and his Artisans are a special Clan.
