Just wondering what’s involved in changing the fingerboard scale on a guitar?

Somewhere down the road I might make the switch, opt for a shorter scale for my SC

OM. Is it simply a matter of changing out one neck for another?

        Thanks,

        John

          Greetings,

It’s not as easy as a bolt on Fender, I would suspect the bridge would need moving along with a new neck, it sounds pretty expensive and time consuming to me, I’d suggest you look for a short scale acoustic and play one for a while before making that kind of a jump.

          Thanks again!

Thanks a lot, that’s good to know. So that’s why I never heard of anyone doing it. Guess I’ll have to buy another guitar!

You have permission! I didn’t say that the top would probably need to be rebraced, go play some short scales, different woods, then order your dream guitar, fun idea, most likely not worth the time or the coin.

I hear you, I love my current guitar, the thought of moving a bridge is abhorrent, a reminder that an acoustic guitar is more than the sum of interchangeable parts. And I don’t have arthritis yet, so I’m good.  Carpe Plectrum.
