I’m planning a build for a Style 1 and need suggestions for which wood. I’d like to keep this under 10K. I was thinking Sinker Redwood for the top.

I’d like Sinker Redwood for top and figured Mahogany for back and sides but I think that’s going to push me over the limit easily.

I own a SC OOO all KOA and a stock D-Law

        Thanks

I saw some amazing Sinker at NAMM on a guitar. Don’t think you could go wrong

If you like the sparkly highs, controlled bass, and forward midrange character of a koa-topped 000, then I think redwood is a winner. Those are my two favorite top woods. Redwood being a little more lush. Koa seems to bring out the sound of the box more. But, the vibe is similar; dry bass with a rich top end that lets you have a “reverby” sound without getting muddy.

My 2021 sinker redwood 000 has “standard” mahogany but the back, sides, AND neck have a good bit of flame. I don’t know if they just happened to have a flamey standard mahogany or if I was lucky enough to get a free upgrade but I was blown away that this was their standard mahogany in 2021. The fact that they stained the mahogany to match the redwood top makes this one inspiring to pick up. Simply gorgeous.

Being that it’s a style 1, are you choosing that for blusey/dry tones, or for comfort? If it were mine, I’d go mahogany or walnut (I absolutely love walnut) for a dry tone. But, if it were just for comfort, I might want a more dense back wood to help the low-end fill out a bit more since it’s a smaller box.

              Just my thoughts.

Thank you! My D-Law had a Mahogany back. I bought that guitar from someone making a quick sale and it was original owner never played. I’d originally wanted a spruce top, rosewood back I’d found at Sylvan but decided the deal was too good to pass up and if I didn’t like it I’d buy the other guitar. I was totally in love with the D-Law the first minute I played it. So I’ll take your advice w/Redwood top.
