But can you blame me? Absolutely f’ing beautiful – ‘81 FTC, euro maple, custom detailing on fretboard, old-style logo, in nearly perfect showroom condition, except it needs a neck reset. Quite playable as-is, but it was very good that it was sold as needing one. This was Harry West’s guitar – looks like he hardly ever touched it, but then he was much more a mandolin player. The case is beautiful, and it came with the original letter Bruce Ross wrote to Harry when they sent the guitar, and the original invoice. These kinds of things just come up so very rarely, you can’t think too much about it – so I just had to hit “buy” – and thanks to digdog for the heads up!!

The Guru of SCGC F models contiues to collect what I think is the largest collection of F models on the planet.
That is a great get Tad…..Congrats. No one does Maple better than Richard and the Crew of Santa Cruz.
Digdog is a wonderful source of whats out there in the guitar world. -

The first Cruz I ever saw was the FTC at Guitar Solo in San Francisco about 22 years ago. It was $1,000.

Thats what they charged Harry for this one, back in 10/81 – I paid considerably more, and happily – 😉

Tad, I don’t mean to derail your thread but do you know if those posters like the one in the last pic are still available anywhere? Many thanks!

I got that from Richard many years ago – it is perhaps one of my dearest SCGC possessions. I would suggest asking the shop what the status of those are, and if any more are available. I think it would be a great thing to re-print!

Tad, I really love the little Vandyke at the body end of the fingerboard at the soundhole. Was that standard on the FTCs of the time?

I don’t think it was ever “standard”, but I also don’t know what options were offered or available back then. It’s the first I’ve seen. I hope to talk with Richard about this one at some point, and he may fill us in on some more SCGC history –
