Hi, I have a 1992 FS guitar. Is the saddle slot likely to have been made at the usual 90 degrees in those days, or should I see it lean a few degrees towards the tale block, as in the instrments being made now? If it was built with the saddle angled slightly back how would I go about sanding the bottom of the saddle if I wanted to adjust it’s height?

        Greetings

Do you know any history on the guitar? Serial number? The shop should be able to trace and repair work if it was done there. I asked Richard about that once and he credited Rick Turner the tilt, better intonation. Our resident FS expert, Tad is off the grind for a few weeks somewhere in the frozen north. Let’s try to solve this mystery

        Hi,

thanks for responding to my post. The serial number is 226. The saddle looks vertical, but I heard that the back angle initially started out very shallow – just a couple of degrees, and would therefore be difficult to see. It apparently increased over time to its present 5 degrees.

The angled saddle slot would have been routed, therefore the bottom of the slot would have been at 90 degrees to the slot angle. The bottom of the saddle would be at 90 degrees to the sides of the saddle, same as a standard saddle set at 90 degrees to the bridge. Treat the height adjustment the same as a standard saddle by sanding the bottom edge to the desired height.

I was gonna respond with that same information from the service department here at the shop.
Thank you for having that knowledge and helping out, its is much appreciated!
