Hi, folks. I normally tune my early 90s SCGC OM down a whole step (DGCFAD). I prefer mediums over low tension for my playing style. Given that I tune to D-Standard and not DADGAD, should I be looking into the normal SCGC set or the DADGAD set? Or does it even matter? Thanks!

Brenda as told me that the DADGAD sets are the choice if a guitar is kept in Alt. tuning. I keep 2 SC guitars in Open G and DADGAD full time….the DADGAD sets were designed for alt tuning according to her.

I tune to D and D# and I just use the standard sets, light for my 00 and H13s, and mediums for the 000 and dreads. I’d normally never use lights (12’s) down to D but my SCGCs stay so focused sounding it isn’t a problem. For other guitars I’ve needed thicker strings.

I use the dadgad set on my baritone down to c and on my slide tuned to g. Really versatile and they last lots of up down tuning,
