Hello from Australia
I recently bought a used Tunnel 13 Redwood OM with mahogany back and sides which I am very proud and humbled to own. I’ve read all about the tragic story and wonderful history of this tonewood online, all which adds great value to me as the owner of this future family heirloom. I am also aware of Richard’s comments in one of the coffee break podcasts that while this provenience may command higher cost and desirability, it does not necessarily in itself make a great guitar. That comes down to the luthier… I’m interested in Santa Cruz Guitar’s thoughts about the Tunnel 13 guitars they have obtained and built. How many are out there in the world? What does/did SCGC make of the tunnel timber they obtained? Is there a backstory as to the the selections process of the tops they obtained (as I know there are a number of other makers that have used that timber)… Finally, is there any special timbers that are currently available or soon to come up? Is there any ‘private reserves’ that may not appear of the website and only really get discussed upon enquiry?
Many thanks, and keep up the good work!

I won’t speak for them but you should definitely search online if you’re curious as there’s a wealth of info about this wood. Most of it went to other builders, some of whom have elaborated on it. Not just in ads but on the AGF as well. Hope that helps and I hope you get a reply here too.

I’ve never heard a clunker from them, the wood and the hands that craft it are very special

I own a FTC with Granidillo/ Redwood… Wonderful sound. easy to play great volume.
I’ve inquired but have not recieved an answer from SCGC if the Redwood is “Tunnel 13”.
Tadol provided the Granidilo and has a twin of the guitar ,I think, he may know if the top is T13.
