Hi folks!
Back in January 2017, I was in a shop in Dublin who had just taken in a practically new Santa Cruz 00 Skye. I had never played a Santa Cruz guitar and that particular guitar blew my socks off. I fell in love with it. I was just after buying a house and I didn’t think it wise to spend that much on a guitar so I left empty handed. A few days passed and I had that “it’s later than you think” epiphany so I called the store to buy it but it was sold. I took note of the serial number.
A couple of years later, I made the trip to see a beautiful used 00 Skye in northern Ireland. It was stunning too with a highly figured set of coco but it had a small crack that just made me uncomfortable. Again, I left empty handed.
Early last year, I found a Don Edwards 00 online at a good price and started a thread here which was most helpful and I pulled the trigger. A beautiful guitar for sure but it didn’t scratch the itch. This week, the original 00 Skye I fell in love with came up for sale in the the Netherlands and I think you know what happened next! I did have to trade the DE to make it happen which is safe but I’ll get over it when my Skye arrives I’m sure! I did lose some money but it was worth it to own the gorgeous little mahogany 00 for a year!
I have to send the DE over before they’ll ship the Skye to me so it will be a little while before I have it in my hands but hey, what’s another week or so after waiting 5 years!
I am beyond excited!

All the SC guitars that I’ve had and have are great guitars and always feel like old friends right out of the box.

Thanks guys!
Yes indeed, it’s very convenient to be part of the EU for buying guitars. I use to buy a lot of guitars from the UK but it’s just not worth it anymore. Shame, they have some great guitar stores!

Best wishes Danny, sometimes you have to hang in there until things work out. So glad to hear of your good fortune.

Wow, amazing story. My SCGC custom 00 is based on the dimensions of the Skye model and you’ll be astounded by the versatility. Congratulations!!!

The back is hard to photograph but it’s a lovely set. No fancy swirly stuff but I like a bit of straight grain!

Backs are always hard to photograph, the front makes all the statement you need. So very happy for you and as Bro Ray Charles used to say ‘you got the right one baby.. uhh huh’ bert 🙂

Thank you Chris! I quite like this set alright… I love the look of the swirly stuff but there’s nothing wrong with a bit of straight grain and perhaps a little less prone to cracking! Santa Cruz have confirmed that this is indeed Cocobolo… Certainly has the weight of cocobolo!
