I have a new Rosewood SC OM. I’m very interested in hearing what strings players use that they think sound best. Right now I have some left over Martin light PB’s I’m using but am going to go back to Santa Cruz lights.

Welcome Mr Bird Dog……SCGC low tensions are pretty great!

<p style=”text-align: left;”>I’ve had the SCGC low tension on my Merrill Adirondack Brazilian OM28 for 2 years. Still sound great.</p>

Anyone asking about strings for a Santa Cruz guitar, the first thing you HAVE to suggest is a set of SC strings – don’t ask about anything else ‘til you’ve tried them. No whining about price, or whatever, until you’ve bought your first set, put them on, and played them for a week or so. They take a bit of time to “break in”, but they stay there for a very, very long time.  I’m quite happy with them on a number of guitars – BUT .  .  .  .

On some guitars, they don’t have enough sparkle, or enough boom – so you should try some 80/20s, or maybe just basic EJ16s – they can sound really good, but I’ve not found them to last the way SC strings do – but it can be worth the changing of strings to get that extra little zing on some guitars –

But personally, I hate changing strings, and the SC sound very good, feel very good, and last a ridiculously long time before I realize they probably should be changed – worth every penny in my mind –

Another vote for SC low tension.

About the only instrument that doesn’t always get them is a Martin OMC-15E that works pretty well with D’Addario  Nickel Bronze – and that guitar sounds pretty good with them.  The rest pretty much use SC low tension; they sound great, feel good, and last forever.

Welcome to the forum mrbirdog, congratulations on the new SCGC OM.

SCGC Lights are fantastic, I also use D’Ad SX 12-53, which are very similar. The nano coating of either is great for me because I slide on the strings a good bit.  The minimal squeak, without the dull tone of other coated brands is a real winner for me.

I favor fresh strings, either last about 4-5mos for me. The cost is a wash when compared to changing EJ16s every 4-5wks in my case.   best wishes, bert

I’ve had the low tension strings on my OM for 2 years. They are getting a bit crusty over the soundhole. Still sound great.

At the risk of being just another voice in the crowd I would have to echo the forum and recommend SC light tension strings!
