That’s one of my favorite standards – in D. I capo strings 1-5 on the second fret & Travis pick. I like the deep sound of the open E in that arrangement. Great song. He will be missed for sure.

Doing “Speed of the Sound of Loneliness” with Claudine on guitar and Gisèle on backing vocals this afternoon on FB live. 17:30 local, 11:30Eastern, 8:30Pacific. (and the video will be available on my FB page after)
Angry and sad at the loss of John, Ellis Marsalis, Bucky Pizarelli, and all the others.
Many expletives uttered. I feel like I’m watching the best parts of my culture die away while other less humane parts of my culture flourish like weeds in a hot house.
Singing itself is becoming resistance.

Well with the start of “Rainy Season” and the arrival of the 12 string I’m working on some iconic 12 string tunes.
Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald.
Tambourine Man
Annie’s Song
Walk Right In
Betty and Dupree
Playing using my ” 60 year bad habit unique to me “combo strum/thumb picking……working out pretty well.
How about Y’all ….new tunes ?

I forgot that I knew Fisher’s Hornpipe. It fell right n my mandolin without much trouble. Monroe’s Hornpipe is easier on Mando than guitar for me. Big Mon and Gold Rush are solid on guitar but still being worked out on Mandolin and fiddle.

A little update…
The local choir has started up again and the conservatory of music will re-open in a couple weeks. Did my first choir practice since early March last Friday night.
We met in abbrevated form (2 men from each group) in a 900 year old church in the village of Mons-en-Lannois. Holy Reverb Batman! Voices, mine included, bouncing off the ancient stone, mortar and bricks were goose-pimply wonderful.
The choir master has decided he wants to do O Shenandoah and has transcripted the version on my CD, Almost Home. I’m singing the solo parts and playing octave mandolin with the choir behind me. Honored, humbled, grateful. And I’m gonna hafta record the damn thing! 🙂
Definitely bucket list material.

One of my favorite songs….I’m sure you’ll make those old walls ring.
I’ve started going through my list of old “Sea Shantys” to see which will translate over to 12 strings with out becoming too ‘muddie”….. Way Haul Away ( the way the Kingston trio did it ) , Spanish Ladies work so far.
I’m always surprised how most songs DON’T sound as good on 12 string versus 6………
