We recently had a loss of a lifelong family friend which resulted from his inability to deal with drugs and alcohol.....not an unusual malady for a musician.
Stuart Ramsay was a pain to be around over the last ten years. He was always there when music was happening....Or, I should say, being played or recorded in the studio.
In these last years, he was often "taking over" the recording sessions with either inappropriate volume, or in pulling equipment over on everyone due to his drunken stupor(s).
But....He was a broken man we couldn't fix. And, although not blood, he was one of the family.
Vocalist brother Sprague Keener, and bassist and vocalist brother Johnny Keener, along with Dann Sill, wrote the first mix of this song in Stuart's memory. You'll hear Sprague backed up by himself on vocals.
For now, a drum kit, Dann's lead, and Johnny's bass. This was a two hour write and mix, so it's rough around the edge. The "Rhythm Fanatics" (Johnny, Sprague, and Dann), out of Salem and Tigert, OR, will be joined
in more refined versions by Wendy Fittz of Marin County, CA on vocals and piano. And, oh, and a real-live drummer.
But, this is a raw and current cut....because Stuart has just passed......So, I share it as such. While I inspired some of the history of the places (Novato/Bolinas Arms, etc.) in the lyrics, the Boys had the good sense
to keep me off of this one.
